Addiction Support

Being in burnout can make us more prone to experiencing addiction as a way of self medicating to reduce stress. From substance misuse through to tech addictions, for example, addictions are a way of helping us to feel like we are coping in a particular moment, but have long lasting harmful consequences on ourselves, our lives and those we love.

Addiction Recovery Support

  • Your local GP is a good place to start if you are experiencing addiction. They can signpost you to local support available such as support groups, and local charities.

  • Many people have found relief from addiction through a Twelve Step Recovery Programme (for example, Alcoholics Anonymous or Drug Addicts Anonymous). The 12 Steps includes peer support, encouragement and accountability for people who want to overcome addiction. Groups are usually offered both online or in person, and you can find them by searching online. They are confidential and usually free or donation-based.

  • Therapy is also another good treatment option for addiction. See the Mental Health section of the Crisis Support Page for more information.
